Chris Kent began his journey of personal development in 1972, when at the age of 17, he became the final (and youngest) member admitted into Dan Inosanto's fabled "Backyard JKD" group during Bruce Lee's lifetime. Chris studied with Inosanto for over 13 years, during which, Chris not only worked to master his skills as a practitioner of Jeet Kune Do, but also as an instructor. As part of his development, Chris traveled around the world serving as Inosanto's personal assistant for seminars and public exhibitions. In recognition of his efforts,
he was one of the first students to be awarded the prestigious title of Full Instructor in Jeet Kune Do by Inosanto in 1982.

Since that time, Chris has lived up to the tradition established by his teacher and mentor of always remaining the student. He has performed extensive research into the foundations of Jeet Kune Do from a technical, philosophical, and spiritual perspective. In addition to the pursuit of the roots of JKD, Chris also embodied the philosophy to"absorb what is useful" by studying other martial disciplines, as well as taking courses in human anatomy and performance, to further his own comprehension of the totality of JKD. This dedication is exemplified by the fact that Chris holds the title of Full Instructor in the Filipino martial art of Kali-Escrima under Inosanto; a Monituer certificate (Teaching credential), Silver Glove (Technical), and Bronze Glove (Competition) rankings in the French kickboxing sport of Boxe Francaise/Savate.
This commitment to continuous improvement has made Chris one of the most sought after instructors on Jeet Kune Do and its applications. Never allowing himself to be characterized as only "a martial arts instructor", Chris has used many methods and
worn many hats to bring his love of the martial arts to the world:
"Chris Kent has spent decades researching the history, art, science and philosophy of
Bruce Lee's art and studying under only the most qualified and authentic
practitioners. His keen mind, coupled with his insightful and dedicated approach to training, have resulted in the cultivation of awesome physical skills, and made him one of the foremost authorities on Jeet Kune Do in the world."
~ John Little,
Innovator of modern physical training methods, such as the Max Contraction Training System
"Chris Kent is a descendant of the Bruce Lee legacy... whom I consider to be an unquestionable disciple who will do his part to ensure that Bruce Lee's art will not become distorted and lost in the future."
~ Taky Kimura,
Bruce Lee's senior-most student and oldest friend

as well as two instructional videotape series, "Dynamic Jeet Kune Do" and "Jeet Kune
Do From A to Z". They are considered by many top experts in the martial art field to
be the most comprehensive and authoritative on the art created by Bruce Lee. In addition, he is a frequent contributing writer to numerous national and international martial art publications. Sports Performance Specialist - Chris has served as a training consultant to a number of professional sports franchises, including the San Francisco 49er's of the National Football League.
"For nearly three decades, Chris Kent has immersed himself in the martial arts education founded by my late husband, Bruce Lee. In addition to being highly skilled in the technical aspects of Jeet Kune Do, Chris is an excellent teacher and has a firm
grasp of martial arts philosophy and its practical application."
~ Linda Lee Cadwell
In late 2003, Chris took on his newest challenge and role, that of innovator. What began as a critical analysis of his own teaching methods as a JKD instructor, led Chris on a long and, sometimes, difficult journey of self-examination, both of himself and of the art he loved. This journey forced him to ask some fundamental questions of Jeet Kune Do, its purpose, training methods, etc. Through this reasoned discourse of questions and answers, Chris came to a number of conclusions about Jeet Kune Do as it is practiced today. Among them was that JKD violated one of Bruce Lee's ultimate goals in its creation almost four decades ago. It had become its own limitation, in effect, becoming "another set of chains." Another was that no superficial or cosmetic change would accomplish this return to the original freedom Bruce intended. Only a total reconstruction would do. So, at the conclusion of months and thousands of hours of diligent work, Kent Martial ScienceTM was born.

Chris currently resides in Boise, Idaho with his wife, Leslie, and daughter, Sarah. Locally,
Chris has been featured on Channel 7's "Idaho at Sunrise" and is a frequent guest speaker
on KBOI's "Go Show" and "Momentum."
Executive/Professional Security Consultant - Chris has worked with many law enforcement personnel, and has been involved extensively in the field of executive security. For three years he served as Director of Security for Santa Monica's Buffalo Club, an exclusive, private supper-club catering to high-profile members of Hollywood's entertainment industry.

Personal Safety/Protection Instructor - Chris developed the Safety Against Violence Education (S.A.V.E.) course. It is a series of personal-protection workshops aimed at not only teaching women and children how to successfully defend themselves, but educating them on the underlying roots of violence and how to avoid trouble before it starts.

International Ambassador - In 1996, Chris helped establish The Bruce Lee Educational Foundation, a non-profit, educational and inspirational organization founded by Bruce Lee's widow, Linda Lee Cadwell, their daughter Shannon Lee Keasler, and a group of first and second generation Bruce Lee students. For five years, he also served as a member of the foundation's Board of Directors.
